The Annual General Meeting of the IMarEST, Bangladesh Branch, held on Wednesday, the 6th June 2018 from 1630 hrs to 1830 hrs at the Tava Restaurant, Chittagong.
Discussion held as per scheduled agenda and minutes as follows:
01. To confirm the minutes of the Annual General Meeting held on 10th August 2017.
Resolved – no objection and observation raised by any member. Minutes adopted and confirmed.
02 (a). To adopt and approve the Branch Annual Report for 2017-2018.
Resolved – Branch annual report 2017-2018 submitted by the Honorary Secretary. He read out the report and replied to the queries of the members. Dr. Sajid Hossain raised the issue of membership drive of the branch and portrayed current situation as upsetting rather than enthusiastic. However, Chairman Md. Saeed Ullah opposed to the word “upsetting” as the current membership data of branch shows that upgradation of membership level and new entrance took place in last year, though the number was not up to the satisfaction. Some other members suggested discussing the issue separately with the topic “other issue” and keep the words in the report as it is.
Above has been unanimously agreed by all members and annual report approved.
02. To receive and pass the audited accounts of the Branch for the fiscal period ended 30th Sep 2017.
Resolved – The audited accounts of the branch for the fiscal year ended 30th September 2017 submitted by Honorary Treasurer. He informed the members of the present standing of the Branch Account, Social Account, and Fixed Deposit Account. All queries raised by the members duly replied by the treasurer. Members expressed satisfaction of the accounts being maintained.
All members had adopted and approved the financial report.
03. To appoint auditors for 2017 – 2018 and fix their remuneration.
Resolved – Engr Golam Sarwar proposed to reappoint “Chowdhury Arup and Company” as the auditors for the fiscal year 2017-2018, with their remuneration to be same like previous year.
All members agreed to the proposal and reappointment of “Chowdhury Arup and Company” approved.
04. To introduce the Candidates and to elaborate the election procedure by the Convenor, Election Sub-Committee.
Resolved – Members have nominated Engr. Mahbubur Rahman as the Convenor of Election sub-committee to conduct the election of the Branch Honorary Officers and Committee Members. Convenor explained the election procedures. Members submitted the nomination papers to him. Engr. Rahman introduced the candidates in a cordial manner.
05. To elect a Committee for 2017 – 2018.
Resolved – Election conducted on voting system. Convenor of Election sub-committee declared of the elected candidates as follows:

06. To elect a Chairman and Vice Chairman for 2017 – 2018.
Resolved – Chairman and Vice Chairman was elected from the members of the executive committee. All members unanimously elected Engr. Arifur Rahman Khan, Membership No. 608505 as Chairman and Engr Harunor Rashid, Membership No. 8053973 as Vice Chairman of the Branch for the term 2018-2019.
07. Other matters:
a) Discussion held about institution registration process with Ministry of Education, Government of Bangladesh. Secretary M Nabi informed that the relevant file was in the ministry and an active monitoring was required. Eng. Golam Sarwar proposed that Dr. Sajid Hossain might follow up the matter effectively. All members agreed to that. Accordingly a sub-committee formed with this regard comprising Dr. Sajid Hossain as convener and Eng. Mohammad Ansarul Hoq as member. Committee would follow up with the ministry to complete the registration process.
b) Members talked over the status of Institution newly owned floor at Barik Building area. Eng. Golam Sarwar informed that formalities of the tenancy agreement had been completed and the floor now in use by the tenant. All members expressed their contentment for this venture.
c) Dr. Sajid Hossain, who is the comandent of Bangladesh Marine Academy, proposed that a session might be organized at Marine Academy premise for the familiarization of the academy cadets with IMarEST, and, thus young generation of marine profession would get interest to become a member of the organization, he added. All members concurred with the proposal. Dr. Hossain was requested to inform branch secretary of a convenient date in near future.
d) Eng. Obaidullah Ibn Bashir proposed that a few technical seminar might be organized at Dhaka in order to increase active participation of the members/interested parties residing in Dhaka in the branch activities. All members agreed to the proposal. Chairman advised branch secretary for arrangement.
