IMarEST is the international professional body and learned society for all marine professionals.
IMarEST Bangladesh Branch
... since 1990
IMarEST Bangladesh Branch was established in 1990 and formally inaugurated on 19 March 1992. Later it had been incorporated initially into the Mid-East Division and recently into Asia-Pacific Division.
Since its inception, the Branch is engaged in fostering marine engineering and upholding the professional excellence of marine engineers and associated marine professionals in Bangladesh. The Branch arranges technical seminars, technical visits, membership drives, technical meetings, social & cultural get-togethers and evenings with gala-dinners. Membership numbers varied around 100. However, a distinction of the branch is having a remarkable number of Technical Seminars since its inception – over 100!
It hosted two Mid-East Divisional Council Meetings in 2005 & in 2010. It also arranged a reception to Mr. Efthimios E Mitropoulos, IMO Secretary General on 13 January 2011 here in Chittagong.
The Branch forwarded decision-making services to IMarEST HQ Council through three of its elected Council Members between 2005 to 2011 and currently one elected Council Member since 2017.
IMarEST Bangladesh is represented at the Senate and the Syndicate of the country’s only Maritime University – Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University, Bangladesh.
The future plan of the Branch is to establish itself as a true umbrella over all the marine engineers and associated marine professionals of Bangladesh and be a fulcrum of the country’s economy.
