Mr. David Loosley, CEO of Institute of IMarEST and Capt John Lloyd, CEO of NI, UK visited Bangladesh from 13 Jan 2020 to 16 Jan 2020

After 9 years IMarEST CEO visited Bangladesh and it is first time that we got the CEO’s of both NI and IMarEST together, it is indeed a very rare opportunities . Their visit was organized to exploit the opportunity to the fullest for the professional development of our Marine fraternity.

The Guests were received at Dhaka Air Port by Capt. Zillur Rahman and he also accompanied them to Chittagong on the same day. In Chittagong, Guests were received the Chairman of IMarEST Bangladesh Branch, Eng Arifur Rahman Khan and other officials of both the institute.

Well come dinner was arranged in Chittagong club with the organizing committee, detail plan and schedule for the visit was discussed and followed throughout their stay.

On 14th morning David and John was accompanied by both the institute official to Bangladesh Marine Academy, which was their main focus of interest, as on 15th in Dhaka, Bangladesh Marine Academy will be presented with a certificate for “Centre of Excellence” by both the world-famous professional bodies.

After Academy presentation, tour of different sections, meeting with the instructors and officials and a fabulous lunch the team returned to the city to inaugurate the newly purchased office space of IMarEST Bangladesh Branch. After the inauguration of the office a memento of IMarEST was presented to the branch chairman by David Loosley.

Mariners’ congregation was arranged in Radisson Blue in the evening where 200 plus guests were invited. David and John both in their presentation have highlighted the activities, opportunities and knowledge shared by the institute and encouraged the fellow mariners and professionals to join the institutes. The party ended with recognizing the contribution of the sponsors, followed by dinner and cultural programme.

15th morning the team flew to Dhaka where Capt. Intikhab, Chairman of Nautical Institute Dhaka, received the guest and were checked in to Hotel Sarina.

In the evening David and John was the guest of honour in seminar arranged by the institutes. Seminar paper was ‘LNG to Power” – presented by Engr Mohammed Shamsul Alam which was very informative and appreciated by the audience.
After the seminar the David and John jointly handed over the – “Certificate of Excellence” to the Commandant of Bangladesh Marine Academy Dr. Sajid Hossain. Present and ex-cadets of the Academy has joined the photo session to be part of history.

At the end of the occasion, our honourable guest were presented mementos from both the institute jointly. Around 250 guests were present and the programme ended with fabulous dinner.

On 16th morning David and John visited Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University (BSMRMU) along with the officials from both the institutes. Meeting with Vice Chancellor Rear Admiral Mohammad Khaled Iqbal, BSP, ndc, psc was very constructive. Possibilities of various aspects of mutual cooperation discussed with very positive hope.

After this visit Honourable Vice-Chancellor Rear Admiral Mohammad Khaled Iqbal also made a visit to IMarEST, headquarter in UK. David and John also spoke to the students and instructors of the university in the conference room and explained the opportunities provided by the institutes for the marine sector as a hole.

Visit ended with lunch offered to the guest.  David and John took the evening flight to UK. The visit was very successful for promoting the activities and membership of both the institutes among the Maritime Community in Bangladesh.
